Legendary Italian swordsman Ridolfo Capoferro published the most famous fencing book in history, Il Gran Simulacro dell'arte e dell’uso della scherma (The Great Representation of the Art and the Practice of Fencing), in 1610. This includes an extensive discussion of fencing theory, and over 40 illustrations, with techniques for the rapier alone, and with the dagger, cloak, and rotella shield.
